Hawaii stuff
Bumping this so it doesn’t get buried
Hey kids. Hawaii is just around the corner, and I wanted to see if y’all wanted to do any tourist-y type things such as going to a luau, snorkeling, etc. I know some things might require some preplanning so I wanted to gauge interest. I’ve never been before, so I’d like to see the sights a bit! Post thoughts here so we have them all in one place.

The biggest thing to worry about ahead of time would be a luau. The best luau in the area (http://www.feastatlele.com/) is $105 + tax/tip and needs a reservation a couple weeks out. Everything else is pretty easy to get while already out there. There are other luau’s, but this one is the best.
Otherwise, there’s the usual array of Fun Things To Do ™ — http://gohawaii.about.com/cs/mauiactivities/tp/top_maui_to_do.htm

What makes that luau so much better, and how does the price compare to the lesser ones?

my first morecooler post! i’m SO EXCITED about hawaii. i’d like to do a luau, but i’m a bit concerned about the lack of vegetarian options. i’ll try calling the lele number tomorrow to ask about veggie options; otherwise, it seems like a waste of money to spend that much and not eat their food.

Here’s a list Allison and I put together of things to do in Hawaii. Thoughts? If we’re going to do a luau, we should really jump on it ASAP before it fills up!
1) Drive to Hana (leave by 8 am; 2-4 hours, take a picnic, black sand beach [Wai’anapanapa State Park]; 7 sacred pools 10 miles farther)

Couple of notes.. awsome beaches are everwhere and easy to get to (even a minute from the condo.) Also, there are some good snorkel spots north of the condo too (north of Kapalua) and easy to get to in 15-20 mins.
Haleakala is awesome– if you guys wanna bike down, have fun– I’ll follow in the car (Never learned to ride.. doh) Sunrise up there is most excellent and works out well since the time change is in our favor.
Might have to do some convincing for the helicopter ride (last time I was going to do that, one crashed that day..
Hana is great..its a very twisty mountain road to get there, so a warning for those who might get carsick. Also, the road continues on around the rest of the island.. its not quite as well maintained, but there are some amazing waterfalls and other cool scenery out there.
And just wandering around Lahaina is cool (the biggest town near the condo.. about 15-20 mins away). Its an old beach town with all sorts of little shops, oddities, and resturaunts.

Oh, there’s also a tour guy right at the condo, so its real easy to book a lot of this stuff right there.

Want me to teach you to ride a bike? I taught Ashleigh, so I can hold the seat and run behind you.
August 15th, 2006 at 1:12 pm
my guidebook (maui revealed) says there’s an amazing magic show in lahaina called warren and annabelle’s. matt, have you heard about it? first, annabelle the ghost plays piano and takes requests, then warren does spectacular magic tricks. tickets are about $45.

Oh yeah, forgot about the magic show Yep, its pretty cool.

Since the luaus fill up quick, I’m willing to handle reservations for that. Let me know ASAP if you’re interested, and I’ll try to get us into the one Matt found (the other ones are not much cheaper, so let’s just do the one we know is good).
